Cold, cold is what we need, too much water out there, that needs to be frozen solid. Groomer would break through if we had snow now. Maybe Feb. and March will be the real winter, prey for cold not snow right now.

James, you seem to know a lot. I think that you should go to this meeting that Zen speaks of. You never know, you could be right. But then you could be wrong. Just remember that there are two sides to every story. I am in the business of using commercial vehicles and I can understand these prices. Believe it or not, but it is cheaper to run brand new equipment with warranty then equipment a few years older without.
Brendan, I did see the groomer over near Larry's and I believe that it is a New Holland (Ford).

what type of groomer did the club buy. i can see purchasing one if it is an actual groomer, not a converted tractor. if we did get dumped on with snow and the groomer was down i think everyone would be complaining and wanting a new one, its a no win situation.

Why would you spend over $100,000. on a new groomer. These farm machines will last many years if well maintained. They are used so very little in this area that they would easily last 10 years or more. Maintenance is far cheaper than replacement. This is a complete waste of sledders money and I for one will not pay for this type of waste. If the permits are not lowered in price to $150.00 for next season, I will not buy one. The OFSC and Clubs need to get real, they are like government, don't know how to control expenses. Would those organizations like to have $150.00 or nothing. The volunteers do a good job, but please don't try to fool anyone into thinking that labour would any where close to the cost of insurance or a new groomer. It is simply waste that costs money as in any organization, it is out of control with the OFSC.

I'll be the first to say that I will be there. I too want to see where our money goes. I hope some of my fellow sledders come also.

Wow if you think permits should go down, please come to our next meeting. You will be surprised. The cost of the new groomer did not go down, and yes we did not spend as much on fuel, but that is a small cost. Signs, lease on trails, chain saws, brush cutters, maintenance, none of this has gone away. If it was not for our volunteers, the permit would be $500 or more.
Please come out to our next meeting and find out reality. Larry's Jan 16th at 8PM.
